Why do these time frame windows move earlier?
We moved the fast shock transmitters earliest because both the public Universe Institute framework and mainstream risk literature point in that direction. The June 2026 Universe page places geoeconomic fragmentation, conflict, AI-enabled manipulation, infrastructure and cyber fragility, and economic fragility at the front of the polycrisis spiral, with approach windows concentrated in 2026 to 2030 and crossing windows in the late 2020s to 2030s. The World Economic Forum’s 2026 report likewise ranks geoeconomic confrontation as the top near-term trigger of a material global crisis, followed by state-based armed conflict, while also placing misinformation/disinformation and cyber insecurity high on the two-year outlook. That combination is why the draft above treats crises 6, 7, 8, 12, 14, and 15 as immediate or near-immediate system-shaping threats rather than distant risks.
We pulled migration, overshoot, inequality, and governance stress materially earlier because the official climate-development literature already shows these systems converging before mid-century. IPCC AR6 says climate-related risks are higher than in AR5 at any given level of warming, that losses and damages escalate with every increment of warming, and that compound and cascading risks become more difficult to manage.
